| The
Admire pallasite
contains olivine crystals which posses a unique
and extremely rare characteristic
called chatoyancy. Chatoyancy
is a changeable luster due to the way it reflects light
within a
gemstone. This
character is caused by either a
fiberous mineral inclusion or tiny void tubes in
the
gemstone. When the gemstone is cut parallel to the fibers or
tubes, they reflect very bright light. The
olivines
within the Admire pallasite meteorite contain void tubes which appear
like fiber optics when a
certain angle of light strikes
them. It is amazing to hold these Admire slices in low light
and watch them "wink" at you! This character is extremely
rare in
both terrestrial and celestial olivines and very collectable. |
